Jogging

Jogging is considered to be the best way of staying fit and losing weight. While there are other ways, jogging is probably the most enjoyable.

In the past, people used to have far more active lives than our generations. From more labor intensive work to walking miles and miles from one place to another. Now, a lot of us have sitting jobs, after which we come home and plop onto the couch to watch something interesting on TV that there's never a lack of. Not to mention the food we eat that are full of fat and other ingredients we would be better off without. That's the recipe for disaster.

Getting some physical activity in our life should be a major priority. Walking is the best way to start out, then slowly increasing the pace over a period of a few weeks to where you can start jogging.

This a simple form of exercise is excellent for the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. When done right it will help decrease the risk of heart disease, lose weight, increase bone and leg muscle strength.

According to American Council on Exercise (ACE), a person weighing about 160 lb can burn about 12 to 13 calories per minute while jogging at about 6 miles per hour. Of course that varies with each individual. If you take that into consideration and do the math, one pound of fat being about 3500 calories, it will take about 4.5 hours or 24 miles of jogging to burn off one pound of fat. This can be easily done in a week and about 8 miles per day, 3 days per week.

If you can walk you can jog. The benefit-to-effort ratio is so much bigger compared to walking that I think that if you are able to walk or already are walking as an exercise you should definitely try jogging. Your body will thank you.
